Traditional Worship:
Tradtional worship at Beaver Dam follows the same format as is found in thousands of other Baptist churches across the country.
Primary emphasis is placed on the proclamation of the word. Both adult choirs and children's choirs are utilized, along with congregational hymns which have been a part of Christian worship for centuries.
At Beaver Dam, the various liturgical seasons of the church year are observed (Advent, Epiphany, Lent, Pentecost). Worship is often planned around the themes provided by these traditional seasons of the church calendar.
Special music is oftentimes a part of the 11:15 service, primarily through the talents of our members. Accompaniment is provided by both organ and piano.
Whatever your personal preferences for worship, there is a place for you among the Beaver Dam family. Make plans to visit with us next Sunday!
Nontradtional Worship:
This service is relaxed and informal. It might be more properly described as "indigenous" worship.
We celebrate the love and grace of God each Sunday with a spirit of openness and an eager anticipation that God will be among us. Worshipers are encouraged to "come as you are." Blue jeans, polo shirts, sports shirts, and sweat suits are often worn (and occasionally there's even someone in a suit). If you plan on going fishing, golfing, or on a day trip to grandma's, dress as you normally would for those occasions and come worship with us! Although a nursery is provided, children are welcome and encouraged to worship with their parents.
Music for this service is upbeat and nontraditional (at least for a typical Baptist Church in Central Virginia). Praise choruses are utilized primarily for congregational singing with accompaniment by electronic keyboard. Special guests provide their own brand of music each Sunday: black gospel choirs, bluegrass bands, contemporary Christian artists, Southern gospel groups, and various soloists.
Congregational participation in the service is encouraged through two-way dialog with the pastor. Opportunities for sharing what God is doing in your life and personal concerns are a part of each service. Although young families and singles particularly seem to enjoy the format of this service, a typical Sunday will see worshipers of all ages in attendance.
Worship is followed a time of fellowship with coffee, juice, and light snacks at 9:45am. Bible study for all ages begins at 10:15am. Come worship with us!
